Healing Touch is a method of therapy that is non-invasive and uses an energy-based heal. The National Institutes of Health has classified the Healing Touch method as a biofield therapy, since the effects of this method are believed to be a result of the manipulation of the magnetic energy fields that surround the human body.

Through an intentional and conscious process, the Healing Touch practitioner directs energy through their hands to their patient by directly touching the patient's body, or coming in contact with the patient's energy field. Healing Touch treatments include light touches on specific points on the body and around the body to restore energy and vitality, increase a sense of well-being, and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

The Healing Touch method has been reported to help those suffering from chronic pain, immune system weaknesses, stress and anxiety, depression, and post-operation problems. It is also supposed to facilitate a deep sense of calm and relaxation in the body, mind, and spirit.

Other benefits of Healing Touch include the fact that it is done without using invasive procedures like injections, pharmaceuticals, or surgery. Because it uses no medications, Healing Touch is non-toxic, working to restore balance and harmony to a client’s natural biofield without the use of chemicals.

In a typical Healing Touch session, the provider begins by calming the mind and becoming fully focused on the needs of the patient. The patient lies on a massage table with their clothes on while the provider lightly places the hands on the patient’s body. The provider assesses the patient’s biofield and proceeds to balance and clear it as needed. A session usually lasts about an hour.

The Healing Touch method was developed in 1989 by Janet Mentgen, a nurse who was interested in energy therapies. Since that time, Healing Touch has gained respect as a leading energy medicine program in the holistic health care community. Healing Touch is used in a variety of settings including spas, hospitals, hospices, long-term care facilities, and private practices.

Healing Touch complements other healing techniques a patient might be using, including traditional therapies, conventional medical practices, massage therapy, acupuncture, and psychotherapy. This therapy method is not intended as a cure.
