The term antioxidant water is often used to refer to bottled water that has been mixed with an ingredient that is rich in antioxidants. There are a number of ingredients that may be used to flavor and enhance this kind of water. A dash of pomegranate juice, for example, may be used to add antioxidants to water. Antioxidant water might also include juices of other so-called super fruits that contain high levels of antioxidants. In some cases, water may be blended with an extract such as green tea extract that is high in antioxidants.

There is a great deal of evidence that ingesting antioxidants can improve one's health and wellness. There are a number of foods and beverages that are good sources of antioxidants and, in some cases, antioxidant water is on this list. If the water, however, includes just a thimble of pomegranate juice or a dash of green tea, then it is probably not very high in antioxidants. Antioxidant water is often flavored with a number of other ingredients and may also contain a good deal of sugar. Before purchasing antioxidant water, check the nutritional information on the packaging to see how many calories are in each serving of the beverage.


Some people like to drink antioxidant water because they like to stay hydrated and also like to consume antioxidants whenever possible. For those who do not enjoy beverages such as antioxidant-rich teas and juices, antioxidant water can be a good way of ingesting antioxidants. Those who do enjoy beverages such as white tea and cranberry juice might do well to have a glass or two of these beverages every day and just drink plain water otherwise. This is especially important for people who are weight conscious.

It is quite easy to make low-calorie antioxidant water at home. One of the easiest ways is to make a drink that is four or five parts water to one part juice. Cranberry juice, grape juice, and pomegranate juice are all good for this purpose. Another way to make antioxidant water is to add a few drops of green tea extract to a glass of water. Green tea extract is especially low in calories, so this is a good choice for those who are trying to lose weight.
