There are various herbs and herbals supplements that are intended to provide energy, including licorice, schisandra, ginseng and ginkgo biloba. Many nutrition centers sell a product known as royal jelly, which is believed to relieve fatigue and increase energy. Maca is an herb that grows in South America and is used by some to enhance sexual energy. Other herbal extracts derived from plants that are indigenous to Europe and Asia are rhodiola rosea and tongkat ali, both used to promote energy and vitality. Some herbal supplements sold as energy boosters combine two or more herbs in one capsule or pill, such as ashwagandha and Chinese ginseng.

Royal jelly is often used as a dietary supplement to increase energy and promote well-being, and is typically sold in capsule form. It is a naturally occurring thick substance that worker bees make and often feed to developing larvae to fortify them with nutrition. They may also occasionally feed the jelly to other bees in the swarm. Many nutritionists believe that royal jelly may also provide humans with vigor and vitality. Royal jelly includes components such as water and amino acids, as well as protein and B vitamins.


Manufacturers sometimes combine several herbs for energy in one supplement, which may be sold at health and nutrition centers. Ginseng and ginkgo biloba are often combined in one capsule. Ginkgo has been touted as one of the herbs for energy that may also improve memory. The ginkgo plant is indigenous to China, and has been in existence for millions of years. One of the herbs often used for energy that has been the subject of scientific research is Rhodiola rosea. Usually taken as an extract, rhodiola root is believed by many to improve stamina, enhance alertness and fight fatigue.

Herbs for energy may be in the form of tinctures, herbal teas or capsules and tablets. Supplements sold as herbs for energy will typically include recommendation for dosing, which can be found on the label. When using herbs for energy, it is recommended to consult with a physician or pharmacist, as some supplements may interact with other supplements and medications. In addition, some individuals may experience side effects such as stomach upset or headache when taking a particular herbal medicine or supplement.
