Did Amelia Earhart Have Any Interests besides Aviation?

When we think of Amelia Earhart, we undoubtedly remember her for her accomplishments in aviation. In 1932, she became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. So you might be surprised to learn that this famed aviator was also a successful businesswoman and one of the first celebrities to have her own fashion line. In 1933, Earhart began her own fashion line called "Amelia Earhart Fashions." As a woman in the male-dominated field of aviation, Earhart had been forced to wear uncomfortable aviation attire that had been designed for men. Perhaps this was the inspiration for her own fashion line, which aimed to produce contemporary clothing for active women. Her designs were sold at some of the top retail stores at the time, including Macy's. Her fashion line also reflected her love of aviation by incorporating innovative designs and unconventional materials such as parachute silk.
