Are There Any Museums Based Entirely in Virtual Reality?

The Kremer Museum is taking virtual reality in the art world to the next level. The experience of seeing the virtual museum and its impressive collection of more than 70 Dutch and Flemish masterpieces will be viewable from your smartphone in 2018, in astounding detail. In digitizing the collection, each painting was photographed more than 2,500 times, a technique known as photogrammetry. “I wanted to come as close as possible to the real thing,” says collector George Kremer.

Like you're really there:

  • George and Ilone Kremer have spent more than 20 years putting together a collection that includes works by Rembrandt van Rijn, Frans Hals, and other Old Masters.
  • The Kremers wanted to find a permanent home for their collection but were discouraged by the constraints of a physical building.
  • The collection will be accessible early next year. To get a sneak peek, watch for pop-up events on the Kremer Museum’s website.
