Who is Clark Howard?

Clark Howard is an American talk show radio host and consumer affairs advocate. His radio program, The Clark Howard Show, is based out of Atlanta, Georgia and is broadcast by WSB AM radio. Howard has co-authored several books with Mark Meltzer, all on the subjects of spending and saving money.

The Clark Howard and Mark Meltzer books typically have self-explanatory titles such as 2005's Clark Smart Parents, Clark Smart Kids: Teaching Kids of Every Age the Value of Money. Most of these guides cover general wealth and consumer money management. However, some are focused in one area such as Clark Smart Real Estate: The Ultimate Guide to Buying and Selling Real Estate published in 2006.

The Clark Howard Show is a nationally syndicated radio program. Howard's advice also appears in newspaper columns and he does television programs as well. Howard not only covers strategies for saving and spending money, but also warns consumers about scams. Clark Howard has also been involved in supporting charities such as Habitat for Humanity. He inspired his radio fans to help him build 23 Habitat for Humanity homes in and around Atlanta. Howard also has 140 volunteers that operate his Consumer Action Center that provides financial advice for consumers.

Clark Howard was born 20 June, 1955 in Atlanta. After graduating from Atlanta's Westminster Schools, he earned a bachelor's degree in urban government in 1976 at American University. In 1977, Clark Howard completed his master's of business management degree from Central Michigan University. He first started giving advice on Atlanta radio in 1987 on travel related topics. Howard inherited his parents' travel business, ran it, sold it and became wealthy.

After doing his guest radio spots on travel, the shows were so popular that Howard was given his own radio program. Clark Howard's website, www.clarkhoward.com, features a section in which he debates those who disagree with his consumer strategies. The website also organizes Clark's advice by categories such as Life and Family and Consumer Awareness and Alerts.Clark Howard lives in Atlanta with his wife, Lane, and their children.
