You've got to try the PurSteam! It’s very powerful yet quiet, and super easy to use. It works great on all my clothes, and there's a useful hanger and fabric brush included. My house has heavy cotton and silk drapes throughout the downstairs and this steamer keeps them looking clean and wrinkle free. I also love that the steam disinfects fabric.

@Rosa Cummings How big is the steamer? Will it fit inside a small closet?

@Lin Zheng It’s the size of a small canister vacuum, so it should fit just fine! It looks pretty heavy duty but it's actually very lightweight!

The PurSteam is a great alternative to ironing and dry cleaning. It does a great job on my family's clothing, and I've been really impressed at how it even takes the wrinkles out of heavier fabrics, like cotton shirts. You can easily control the steam level (there are four settings) just by turning a knob. I've had mine for over a year now and it's still working great, but I'm also reassured to know that there's a five-year warranty!

I decided to give the PurSteam a try because I absolutely hate ironing. I wish I had discovered this sooner! It's so much easier than ironing, and works just as well. I can get through a load of laundry much faster with the PurSteam than if I had to drag out my ironing board! It works on my husband's collared shirts, my blouses, my daughter's dance outfits, and everything in between!

Yes! The PurSteam is so versatile. I love that with the different settings, I can use it on the heavy curtains in the living room, as well as on delicate clothing items. I even steamed my daughter's wedding dress and it came out perfectly. I would never have dreamed of trying that with my iron!

I own a men’s clothing store and bought the PurSteam to use in my shop. It produces a ton of steam and is easy to operate. It’s also quiet, which is important at work. You can use tap water, although we always use distilled water so scaling isn’t an issue.

The Rowenta is great for a handheld steamer. I can fill the tank without spilling water everywhere and it gets hot fast. It can even de-wrinkle thicker fabrics like cotton. (If you need to de-wrinkle a delicate fabric like silk then you can use the lower setting.) It's super light but still feels sturdy.

I’ve used other steamers before and the Rowenta is one of the better ones. It's easy to handle and it heats up really fast. Unfortunately, it sometimes "spits" hot water, and I wish the tank was a little larger so that it didn't require constant refilling.

The Rowenta steamer has always worked fine for me, and the long cord means I can use it in my closet. I like that I can use regular tap water with it instead of distilled water.

The Conair Turbo Extreme is what we use at home and it works well. Filling our old steamer was a pain because the hole was small and water spilled everywhere - but not with the Conair. ... It’s really easy to use, too. The only problems we’ve had are scaling and spitting...but we started using distilled water, which helps a lot. You’ll also want to keep it upright, otherwise it spits hot water. But this is a great steamer, highly recommend! Read more

The Conair is what we use - but it goes through water really fast! I can only get through one or two shirts and then have to refill the ... reservoir. But if you don’t have to steam often and don’t mind using distilled water (we also had scaling problems) then the Conair is solid. Read more

@Chantelle J Have you had problems with leaking? Also, can you use it on heavier fabrics?

I spent a ton of time researching steamers because there are so many to choose from. I bought the MagicPro. It heats fast and gets ... hot - be careful or you could burn yourself - but the auto shutoff feature makes me worry less. I love that it produces continuous steam, but the downside is that you’ll need to refill the water tank frequently. The tank opening is small and spilling is easy so this takes some practice.Read more

@Nell Emmett Does the steamer work on heavier fabrics like men’s shirts or is it only good for rayon and silk?

Nell Emmett

@Lin Zheng I have not used this on men’s dress clothes but it gets really hot, so it might work. I’m not sure it will replace your iron, though!

If you don’t need to replace your iron and just want a steamer for silky fabrics, Beautural makes a great hand held model. Heats fast ... and the brush attachment is awesome because it makes steaming hanging garments easier. Just make sure you empty the water tank every time you use it - it leaks otherwise. I barely need to refill the tank.Read more

Do NOT buy this steamer. It leaks everywhere. I put this in my closet, it fell over and leaked water all over my favorite blouse. Also, filling it is ... SO messy. Water gets everywhere. I did like the brush attachment as it made steaming easier.Read more

@Katrina Morel The same thing happened to me! And it doesn’t work on men’s clothes. I bought this to save money on dry cleaning shirts ... and suits but it’s not powerful enough. Total waste.Read more

The Jiffy is a good steamer, but it’s expensive. It may not be right for the average user, but if you own a fabric or clothing store it’s perfect! Pros: it’s powerful and works great on heavy fabrics. ... Cons: almost too many to list...it heats really slowly, it leaks and you can’t see how much water is left in the tank when you’re using it. It’s also pretty big, so it’s like storing a vacuum. Overall this works how I want it to but I wish it heated faster and didn’t leak. It works great on heavy fabrics, but if you just want a regular steamer then this might be overkill.Read more

@Sabine Madsen-Epps I agree. Our Jiffy leaked constantly and I replaced it with the PurSteam. Still not perfect, but cheaper, and it ... doesn’t leak.Read more
