There are a number of different types of hairstyles with hair bands, depending on the type of hair bands an individual chooses to wear. Small, rubber-band-like elastic ponytail holders can be a great way to pull the hair back into a bun or a ponytail. Head bands that go over the crown of the head and pull the hear back are a more common type of hair band, used in many different hairstyles where the hair is left down or pulled up into a twist. It is a good idea to experiment with different hairstyles with hair bands to figure out what works best for you.

Hairstyles with hair bands that are small and elastic are some of the most practical and versatile. Many people will wear their hair pulled back with an elastic hair band on a daily basis, either in a basic ponytail, or a slightly more stylish bun or twist. The hair may be put into a bun on the back of the head, or it may be gathered at the nape of the neck, which can also be a little more stylish. However, it depends on an individual's personal preference and desired style for the day or evening.

Often, these hairstyles are paired with hair bands, or head bands, that go over the crown of the head, to make the simple ponytail or bun look more dressy. These hairstyles with hair bands may be simply or elaborate. If the hair is pulled straight back, the head band may simply be placed over top of it. The hair may also be styled around the hair band to give it the appearance of more volume. Some people will also leave their hair down with a hair band; they will use the band to pull their hair straight back off the face, but then let it fall loose around the neck and shoulders.

Fancier events may also lead to fancy hairstyles with hair bands. Brides, for example, will frequently use an elaborate tiara headband or veil to style the hair; again, it may be completely pulled back, left mostly down and loose, or a mixture of the two. These hairstyles will typically require additional styling tools in addition to simple hair bands; these elaborate hairstyles typically require a number of clips and pins to hold the hair in place, especially with a long day of dancing and picture taking.
