What are the Different Types of Chaise Cushions?

There are various types of chaise cushions or chair cushions for chaise lounges, some of which differ by feature. Some chaise cushions include a fabric protector to help repel stains. Fabric or upholstery protectors are generally treated directly into the fabric, although some may be purchased separately in an aerosol spray can. There are also chaise cushions that are waterproof for all-weather use. Pricing will typically vary according to styles and features.

Some chaise cushions for lounge chairs will have tufting. Depending upon the length of the cushion, some seat cushions may have three tufts, while others may have six. Many are filled with polyester stuffing.

Chaise lounge chair cushions are available in a wide array of colors and design patterns. Some are solid colors, while others are striped. Some patterns feature geometric shapes. Some cushions may have floral designs throughout. Some custom-made chaise lounge seat cushions may also have monogrammed initials sewn into the material for a personalized touch.

Chaise cushions are available for both indoor furniture and outdoor use. Some cushions feature basic styling and are generally less expensive than more elaborately designed styles. The more expensive styles may include seat cushions with tassels or elaborate stitching. Some of the newer styles also feature fabric known as microfiber. Microfiber material used in chaise cushions is generally more absorbent than many other types of material.

Some chaise lounge chair pads may also be made with natural materials. These styles may be made with feather and down fill. For individuals who are allergy sensitive, feathers may be cleaned in such a way to help reduce allergens. Synthetic cushions are typically considered safer for allergy sufferers. Goose and duck down feather fill are some of the more popular varieties.

In addition to store-bought chaise lounge chair cushions, there are ways to make handmade cushions. Basic materials needed for this project would be foam or some type of material used for the filling. Material or fabric of one's choosing and Velcro® for fastening are other necessary materials. Waterproof material is best suited for outdoor patio furniture.

All of the materials needed to handcraft chaise cushions at home may typically be purchased at a craft store. It's useful to use some type of sewing machine to make the task easier. To make a cushion that fits the chaise lounge perfectly, exact dimensions will need to be taken. Often directions for some of these do-it-yourself craft projects can be found online.

If you want to make your own chaise cushions, foam rubber makes the best material for them. You just have to make sure that you get the right thickness that is not too firm or too thin for comfort.

I have an outdoor chaise lounger that I keep on my deck. I have found that the best type of waterproof cushions are those made of a soft vinyl-like material. The are comfortable yet durable, and last season after season.
