What Are the Different Natural Melasma Treatments?

Melasma is a skin condition that leaves irregular pigmentation spots on a person's body and often on the face. While it doesn't create any adverse medical symptoms, the spots are often noticeable and considered unsightly by many people. Although there are several forms of treatment for this condition including laser removal, many people opt for natural melasma treatments instead. When a person chooses this route, there are four common options which are already available in many households. These include using aloe vera, lemon juice, vinegar or onion.

Aloe vera has been known to possess many medicinal benefits for a wide range of health problems and skin conditions. It's also one of the more common natural melasma treatments. In order to apply aloe vera, the person should rub it into the affected areas with his hands using a circular motion. It's usually best to do this shortly before bedtime and to let it remain on the skin overnight.

Lemon juice is another option that has helped many people clear up melasma spots. The naturally acidic makeup of lemon juice works to lighten the dark spots and help these areas blend in with the rest of the skin. For optimal results, it's usually best to apply the lemon juice once a day to affected areas with a cotton swab. Over time, the pigmentation should gradually fade away and the skin will appear as it would normally.

Another one of the natural melasma treatments that many people find effective is vinegar. Either regular white vinegar or apple cider vinegar will work to suppress the dark pigment of melasma spots. In order to reduce the harshness of vinegar, it's recommended to dilute it by mixing in an equal amount of water.

Once a mixture has been made, the individual should apply it to the affected areas with a cotton swab. The solution should be allowed to sit on the skin for a few minutes and should be washed off with water. For the best results, it's recommended to not dry the area with a towel, but allow the area to air dry instead.

An additional option is using onion as a remedy. This is one of the natural melasma treatments that is typically combined with vinegar for maximum effect. The easiest way to apply onion is to first cut off a slice that is approximately the same size as the pigmentation spot. Then it should be dipped in a small amount of vinegar and applied directly to the area. This treatment should be performed twice a day to speed up the results.
