What are Some Non-Alcoholic Mixed Drinks?

Teetotalers and designated drivers who like to enjoy a night out at a party or nightclub without alcohol might be interested in learning about some tasty non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Of course, there's always soda or juice, but many people like to try something different when on the town. These drinks are also the perfect solution for office parties, where the hosts want to serve something special to their workers but have a policy against serving alcohol in the office or just want to avoid some of the irresponsibility that can come with an open bar. Drinks like fruit juice coolers, the Shirley Temple, cowboy punch, or safe sex on the beach can be enjoyed by all.

Fruit Juice Coolers

This drink requires several ingredients, but it is simple to make:

  • 12 ounces (355 ml) water, regular or sparkling
  • 2 tablespoons (29.5 ml) lemon juice
  • 12 ounces (355 ml) peach nectar
  • 1/2 cup (118 ml) orange juice
  • 1/4 cup (59 ml) grapefruit juice

The bartender should pour all ingredients into a large pitcher and mix them well. The drink can be poured in tall glasses over ice, and topped with a maraschino cherry.

Shirley Temple

Named after the famous child actress, the Shirley Temple is probably the most famous of the non-alcoholic mixed drinks.

  • 1/4 cup (59 ml) ginger ale or another “white” type soda
  • 1.5 tablespoons (22 ml) grenadine syrup

All ingredients should be poured into a tall glass filled with ice and topped with a maraschino cherry.

Cowboy Punch

Cowboy punch can be a good fit for a party or other festive event. This is another simple recipe that many say tastes like champagne.

  • 1 gallon (3.78 l) grape juice
  • 1 quart (1 l) club soda
  • 2.1 quarts (2 l) lemon-lime soda or ginger ale

The host can pour all ingredients into a punch bowl and add ice. This drink is best served very cold.

Safe Sex on the Beach

The virgin counterpart to the popular sex on the beach cocktail, this drink is sweet and allows drinkers to feel as if they’re having something a bit more special than soda or bottled water.

  • 3 ounces (88.7 ml) cranberry juice
  • 3 ounces (88.7 ml) grapefruit juice
  • 2 ounces (59 ml) peach nectar

The ingredients should be poured into a cocktail glass and garnished with a maraschino cherry.

Non-alcoholic mixed drinks don’t have to be bland or boring, and people don’t have to have alcohol to have a good time. There are plenty of options available for designated drivers or those who don’t wish to imbibe. Individuals can always ask a bartender to recommend some non-alcoholic drinks. He or she is likely to have several appealing suggestions.

This recipe is called Jungle Juice. I think that the reason that I like it is because it is like nothing I have ever tried. My husband and I do not drink alcohol so I am always looking for creative drinks to serve when we have guests over.

You need 1 banana, 2 cups orange juice, and 1 dash of ginger. Cut the banana into chunks. Put the orange juice, banana, and ginger in a blender and blend until well blended. Pour into a Collins glass and serve.

One of my other favorites is called a “fuzzless navel”. You just need 2 oz. peach nectar and 6 oz. orange juice. Pour the peach nectar and orange juice in a chilled glass filled with orange juice. Garnish with a slice of orange.

I threw a baby shower for my sister last month and I served a variety of different non-alcoholic drinks. We wanted to do something different than the typical punch.

I brought champagne and wine glasses and there wasn’t a bit of alcohol there. One of her favorites was called “fruit fantasy”. This is how you make it:

You need 3 oz. orange juice, 2 oz. pineapple juice, ½ oz. kiwi syrup, 2 Tbsp. melon (your choice), and 4 strawberries.

Blend in a blender until smooth. Add a half cup of crushed ice and briefly blend again. Pour into a pina colada glass. Garnish with fruit or drink umbrellas.

@momothree: That is an awesome idea. When I started reading your post, I assumed the girls were 10 or 11. I think that it is great that they can have fun and enjoy making juice drinks and appreciationg sobriety. Way to go!

This is a drink recipe that my daughter loves to make every time she has a sleepover. The girls love it. This one is called a Cinderella. You need 2 oz. orange juice, 2 oz. pineapple juice, 1 oz. lemon juice, 1 oz. soda water, and ½ oz. sugar syrup. Shake with ice and then strain and fill up the cups. I go to the Dollar Store and buy some of those cheap plastic little champagne like cups. They are so proud that they can be like grown-ups but they know that alcohol is bad for them and that they can have fun without it.

By the way, my daughter is 17 and she is a peer counselor at our church. She is an advocate for teens against drinking.
