How Much Internet Traffic is Comprised of Video Streaming?

Streaming video takes up more than one-third of Internet traffic during normal television-watching hours. In fact, people spend twice as much time on the Internet as they do watching TV, and almost a fourth of people less than 25 years old say that they watch most of their media online.

More statistics about Internet use:

• Most people spend about eight times as much time on the Internet as they do reading newspapers or magazines.


• The most frequent online activities are using search engines, using social media, doing personal research and checking email.


• Only 20 domains account for almost half of the time spent online, and they include popular social media websites and video-sharing websites. Globally, Internet users spend an average of six hours a week on social media sites.
