How Fast Are Dubai’s Police Cars?

Dubai might be the largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, but it's also one of the world's safest urban areas. And even though the city has a fleet of 14 supercars, including a Ferrarri FF, a Lamborghini Aventador, and an Aston Martin One-77, those super-fast vehicles aren't usually used to patrol the streets or chase criminals. Instead, they are mainly driven around shopping areas to delight tourists and make them feel at home. The fleet's pride and joy is a Bugatti Veyron that tops out at 253 mph (407 km/h), making it the world's fastest police car, according to Guinness World Records. Dubai says that the goal is to show how friendly and fun the city's crime-fighters are, and how diverse -- many of the police force's speediest sports cars are driven by female police officers.

What to expect in Dubai:

  • Dubai is growing incredibly quickly. In 2006, the city was rumored to be using a quarter of all of the world's construction cranes.
  • Camel racing is a popular sport in Dubai, but since only children are small enough to race them, the city is building child-sized robots to use as jockeys instead.
  • Dubai has been so busy growing and expanding that it did not have a standard postal system until 2015; before then, people relied on post office boxes or hand-written descriptions of addresses for delivery.
