How do I Choose the Best Plastic Wardrobe?

A plastic wardrobe is a good option for inexpensive temporary storage during a move, or for seasonal clothing storage in a basement, attic, or garage. The two basic types of a plastic wardrobe are hard and soft units. Hard plastic units are a good choice for use during a move, as it will provide some crush protection and will keep the garments inside clean, dry, and protected from damage. Soft plastic units, or fabric units, are lightweight, inexpensive, and either waterproof or water-resistant. They are a great choice for temporary or seasonal storage of clothing, even in damp rooms in the house.

Before choosing a plastic wardrobe that will work for you, be sure to measure the space in which the wardrobe will be placed. This will dictate how large of a wardrobe you can purchase; if you are purchasing a hard plastic wardrobe for a move, choose one that is compact enough that it will not take up too much space in the moving van. Once you have determined how much space you have, think about how much clothing you have to be stored in the wardrobe. You may need to purchase more than one unit to fit all the clothing you intend to store.

A plastic wardrobe is sometimes designed to be hung, while other units are designed as freestanding units. The hanging units are great for closet spaces, so if you plan on storing your garments in a closet, consider this space-saving option. The hooks should be heavy-duty enough to hold the weight of numerous garments, and the wardrobe should feature a metal or plastic frame that gives the wardrobe shape. If the unit is freestanding, make sure the wardrobe has stable feet to ensure the unit does not move excessively, or casters so the unit can be moved easily when necessary.

Consider purchasing a plastic wardrobe that features a see-through plastic window. This will allow you to see the garments stored inside without having to unzip the wardrobe. A window makes access to garments much quicker, and it will help you keep things in order at all times. Make sure to choose a wardrobe with a heavy-duty zipper for easy opening and closing of the unit as well. This zipper makes access easier, but it also keeps out unwanted pests such as bugs, animal fur, dust, dirt, and even mold and mildew.
