Where do Polish Immigrants Live?

Outside of Warsaw, Poland, the city with the highest Polish population is Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. Chicago boasts a Polish-speaking population of more than 185,000 residents. Americans of Polish descent represent a little more than six percent of Chicago's total population.

  • There are about 10 million Americans of Polish descent living in the United States — about 3.2 percent of the total US population.

  • Between the 1800s and World War II, more than five million Polish citizens immigrated to the US.

  • In the 2000 US Census, almost 670,000 Americans reported that Polish was the language they spoke at home.

  • Some other countries boast large Polish immigrant populations as well. In Brazil, almost two million citizens are of Polish descent. Argentina has the next highest reported Polish population with about one million Polish residents.
