While most new computers come with a basic set of speakers, choosing to upgrade your computer speakers can enhance your audio experience. Before you purchase new computer speakers, it is a good idea to spend some time thinking about how you plan to use your computer’s sound system. It makes no sense to spend your hard-earned money on speakers that aren’t suited to your needs.

If your computer is used for primarily for word processing, surfing the web, sending e-mail, and storing digital pictures, you’ll be able to get by with simple magnetically shielded, powered speakers. These computer speakers can be purchased for as little as 20 to 30 US Dollars (USD). However, there are often very few differences between these low-end speakers and the speakers that came with your computer.

Consumers are more likely to find the speakers they want for an affordable price by shopping online.

If you’re an avid gamer or frequently use your computer to listen to music and watch DVD movies, you’ll want to look for a three-piece system featuring a ported sub-woofer. However, if you have a sound card that is set for 3D sound, a system with up to six separate speakers could be a worthwhile investment. Computer speakers suitable for gaming and other home entertainment uses can cost up to 200 USD. Normally, these types of speakers are sold by the inch.

Regardless of how you plan to use your new computer speakers, choosing speakers that offer a generous manufacturer’s warranty and comprehensive technical support is a smart move. Even if you consider yourself to be technically savvy, there’s still a possibility that you might have trouble with your new computer speakers. Purchasing audio components from an established manufacturer ensures that you’ll get the customer service you deserve.

Appearance is an often overlooked factor when purchasing computer speakers. If your computer is located in a high traffic area of your home, you’ll want to choose computer speakers that are both stylish and functional. If your desk is very small, you’ll have to be careful to avoid selecting computer speakers that crowd your workspace. Deciding where to put the cabling on an extensive speaker system may also be an issue.

If you’re on a tight budget, don’t be afraid to take the time to do some comparison shopping before making your purchase. Many electronics retailers will run periodic sales on computer speakers and other audio accessories. There are also a number of businesses that distribute e-mail newsletters to notify customers of rebates, coupons, and free shipping codes for online shopping.

There is no need to get boring looking speakers when you are shopping for your computer accessories. There are tons of stores online specializing on cute, nerdy, trendy, and kitschy versions that offer a great look and functionality.

If you want Hello Kitty, R2D2, a dog, aliens, die, or futuristic mice, there is really no limit to the nifty speakers they sell online.

I know those who are really into sound will get a professional set, but for those who want a fun item to liven up their desktop, I recommend heading to your search engine and seeing if your favorite character comes in a speaker form.

If you are an avid traveler you can get great USB powered speakers for your laptop that are small and have pretty good sound.

They come in tons of colors and designs, and because they only have one cord, it really saves you from getting tangled in wires.

Some of the neatest ones are expandable and contain not only the two main speakers, but also a central woofer for better sound.

I would recommend shopping online, as you can find fantastic deals and there is more of a selection to choose from. Last time I went into a computer store and looked for speakers, there were about six different kinds, and none of them was what I was looking for.
