Containing a number of exhibits that tell the story of birds in Florida both past and present, the sanctuary also is home to a number of different types of birds from all over the world. Documentaries are ran several times a day, and the walk through the bird park is easily accessed from the main section of the exhibit area. The sanctuary is open for longer hours during the summer months, making it a great place to visit when you need a break from other outdoor activities.
For history buffs, the Pinellas County Heritage Village is a must for anyone seeking fun for free in Tampa. With over twenty-one acres of historic buildings and a top-notch museum, visitors can catch a glimpse of life in the Tampa Bay area during the 19th century. Guides dressed in period costumes are available to answer questions, direct persons to other points of interest in the village, and in general assist any visitors. The landscaping is native Florida pine and palmetto greenery, providing even more of an authentic feel to the area. A playground for the children is located within the village, as well as several nice areas for a picnic lunch.
