@turquoise-- I have not used valerian but my sister uses it for sleep problems. She says that it's a fairly strong herb and knocks her out when she takes it before bed.
I suffer from anxiety and use passionflower liquid. It doesn't make me go to sleep. It just relaxes me and gets rid of my anxiety. I don't have sleep problems so passionflower works just fine for me.
If you are like me and just have anxiety, then I recommend passionflower. If you have anxiety and insomnia or if your anxiety is severe, then valerian is a better option. I'm not a doctor or herbalist though. It's always a best to get advice from an expert.
