What is the Difference between Rims and Wheels? |
||||||||||
When it comes to automobiles, it seems as if there are several terms for each part of a car. Rims and wheels are a good example of that. There are no distinguishable differences between rims and wheels on an automobile. In fact, wheels can be called rims and rims can be called wheels. They have the same function, work in the same location, and they are usually made of similar materials. The term rims has been coined as a slang term for fancy wheels on a car, but it is not just a slang term. It is used by car lovers everywhere to describe a certain type of wheel. These wheels are always bought as an aftermarket purchase, and they can be custom made for a specific automobile. They are usually chrome, alloy or another shiny and durable material. But not everyone pinpoints these specific styles as rims. Sometimes the term rims can be used to describe standard factory wheels on a car, sport utility vehicle or truck. Standard rims and wheels can be any color, and they are most often neither shiny nor flashy. These are the wheels that come on most new cars. The only exception is a luxury or high priced automobile. Such vehicles frequently come new with flashy, shiny and new custom wheels. Regardless of what they are called, rims and wheels can be found on every car, truck or sport utility vehicle. Some wheels are black and basic, while others are silver in color and they offer an appearance that is sure to get the driver noticed. If a vehicle does not come with the wheels that a driver wishes to have they are easy to obtain at a custom shop. All that is needed is the right amount of money. Rims and wheels are the part of the car that the tire is put onto before it is placed on the car. Besides coming in a variety of colors and materials, they are also available in a large assortment of sizes. Larger-sized rims are popular on sports cars and trucks or sport utility vehicles that have a lot of aftermarket parts. These vehicles are popular for areas with warm climates and nice weather conditions. Smaller wheels are usually accompanied by larger tires on vehicles that are used for off-road and winter weather driving conditions. The larger wheels make these vehicles safer to drive and easier to handle in harsh conditions.
