I have a different stance on this topic. I think that there is no reasoning in logic, but there can be logic in reasoning.
Just like the example of the doctor in the article, some people do take account of both scientific facts as well as other issues like ethics to make their decisions. And I think that this is the best route to take.
We are human, so we can't always just rely on statistics and facts when making decisions. We have thousands of years of history and certain rules and norms that are based on our experiences. These experiences, as well as scientific facts are valuable and important. So why should we ignore either?
