Shamballa reiki is an energy healing system. Also known as the Shamballa Multidimensional Healing System, it was developed by spiritual teacher John Armitage. He claims to have received clairvoyant instructions for the system from the Ascended Master Saint Germain. It combines the principles of reiki, introduced by Mikaomi Usui in the early 20th century, with those of shamballa, an ancient metaphysical teaching with roots in Tibet and India.
Usui reiki is a simple technique that involves laying on of hands and transferring energy by attuning to the life energy. The name for the technique incorporates the Japanese words rei, which means "the wisdom of God," and ki, which means "life force energy." It is not taught in the usual way but passed on during an "attunement" by a reiki master. Shamballa reiki is passed on to a student in a similar way. Receiving an attunement is sometimes compared to plugging a lamp into a socket, because energies that were dormant begin to flow.
Practitioners of shamballa reiki consider it a more powerful technique than Usui reiki. Practitioners of the latter method use a set pattern of hand movements, but shamballa reiki practitioners are encouraged to let the energy flow where it is needed. They maintain that the shamballa healing energies transmitted by Saint Germain enable a more direct connection to divine healing power and provide a more intense and profound experience for the client.
In a session with a shamballa reiki practitioner, a client might sit comfortably on a chair or lie on a table. During the session, the practitioner might or might not lay hands on the client. Some people report feeling physical sensations of tingling or heat, and others report strange thoughts or impressions. Shamballa reiki explains these as the movement of the healing life force and the releasing of blockages in the physical, emotional and spiritual layers of the client's being. After a session, most people report feeling relaxed and refreshed, and many people report relief from pain and other symptoms of illness.
Attunements for people who wish to become a shamballa reiki practitioner are usually conducted in a class. These reiki classes often focus on traditional Eastern healing methods; energy work, including Qi Gong; and meditation practices. They usually require no prior experience in meditation or the healing arts and are available wherever there is a qualified practitioner to offer them.
