Many companies require business attire such as button down shirts, ties, trousers and skirts to be worn at the office. While businesses want their employees to look professional, many have adopted the practice of having casual Fridays. Instead of wearing business attire the employees are allowed to dress down a bit.

If your place of employment has casual Fridays, there is an opportunity to go to work in more comfortable and relaxed clothing. Keep in mind the type of office that you work in and how the other coworkers dress as well. If there are any questions regarding clothing, consider speaking to your boss or someone in human resources just to make sure of the dress code. In addition, keeping a spare pair of dress clothes in your desk may be a good idea in case an unexpected meeting comes up where professional attire should be worn.

For men, casual Fridays usually means not having to wear a tie and blazer with dress pants and work shoes. In some cases, wearing a polo shirt and jeans may be acceptable depending on the dress code of the company. While sneakers may not be permissible, black casual shoes would usually be appropriate.

What women could wear on casual Fridays is similar to what would be worn during the week. Dress pants, a blouse or sweater and a pair of heels could make for an appropriate outfit for work. If you would rather wear a skirt, consider selecting one that is basic and simple but comfortable and in a neutral color. When wearing makeup, opt for keeping it low key like it would be worn during the rest of the week.

While casual Fridays signifies a more relaxed wardrobe, there are still clothing pieces that should be left for weekend wear. Sweatshirts, hooded or otherwise, tank tops and t-shirts can look sloppy as do sweatpants and gym pants. Avoid wearing open toed sandals or flip flops as they are more appropriate for after work activities.

Whatever clothing is being worn, it should be without wrinkles and stains. The shoes should look presentable and be clean no matter what they are being worn with. In addition, your hair should be neatly combed and styled. Even though you can relax a bit on casual Fridays from a usually more professional and rigid wardrobe, you should still be well dressed and be a good representation for the company you work for.
