I always read the ingredients on every product that I buy before purchasing it, and I remember seeing paprika oleoresin on a package of pepperoni. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I knew that paprika was a spice, so I didn't think it would be anything harmful.
Pepperoni is a bright orange-red color. I guess that oleoresin paprika is the reason.
I wonder what color pepperoni would be without this ingredient? Perhaps it would be an ugly gray or brown that would make it unappetizing. I'm guessing that oleoresin paprika keeps us from getting nauseated while looking at certain foods.
