What is Homeopathic HCG?

Homeopathic human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a heavily diluted version of HCG containing only a miniscule amount of the hormone and meant to be delivered regularly over a period of time in consistent, small doses. The theory behind homeopathic HCG is that small amounts that accumulate in the body will have a greater effect than a one-time large dose. Small, regimented doses can also avoid the negative side effects of large dosages, which can include cancer and the formation of clots in the blood. Homeopathic HCG is often used for weight loss, corrective adolescent development, and fertility.

In small amounts, men and women both produce HCG, which is a hormone that aids in the development of ovaries in females and testes in males. Boys who reach the age of puberty, but show no immediate signs of adolescence, might use homeopathic HCG to jumpstart development. HCG in adolescent boys can increase testosterone and encourage the testicles to descend and perfect development of the scrotum. Sperm production in adult males can also be increased by this treatment. The hormone can also spark ovulation and increased fertility in women.

HCG is usually produced by woman during pregnancy, and it is the hormone measured by home pregnancy tests.

Beyond sexual development and reproduction, however, homeopathic HCG has gained a reputation for being a slimming aid. The hormone encourages the hypothalamus to release chemicals that shed stored fat. Some doctors claim doses of regular, full-strength HCG cannot result in weight loss; however, homeopathic HCG doses generally can, provided they are combined with a low-calorie diet of between 500 and 1,000 calories (2,100 to 4,200 kj). If regular HCG is used for weight loss, it has to be heavily diluted in water in order for the user to reap homeopathic results.

The most popular form of homeopathic HCG for shedding weight is a bottled liquid mixture with other fat-burning herbs and chemicals. These mixtures, which are typically administered under the tongue via an eye dropper, contain proprietary combinations of thyroid boosters and metabolism enhancers. Most people spread the daily dose of 25 to 50 drops over two to three doses throughout a 24-hour period. Weight loss of between 10 and 20 pounds (4.5 kilograms to 9.1 kilograms) can typically be achieved in three to four weeks. Some people claim to lose up to two pounds (0.9 kilograms) a day.

Fertility treatments and sexual development treatments using HCG are generally administered with hypodermic needles as injections underneath the skin or into a muscle. These shots can be self-administered or given by a physician. Regular HCG requires a prescription, but homeopathic HCG generally does not.

Homeopathic or the real thing isn't going to make a difference according to what a doctor told me. Anyone eating a scant 500 calories a day is going to lose weight.

I agree with the poster who said "lifestyle change" is the way to go. I also think making healthy choices and not going below 1000 calories safeguards health. Less than that and it's dangerous -- with or without HCG.

Great article! It is really informative and accurate. I have personally used homeopathic HCG through my local fit and trim clinic and got some amazing results!

@EdRick: I completely agree with you! Homeopathic remedies are based on the law of similarities. That is why I got the real stuff. What they are selling does not add up to the rules.

@EdRick - That's what I've heard about homeopathics, too. But I think some people use the term "homeopathic" to refer to any natural or alternative treatment and especially to holistic medicine.

I hope that people pursuing homeopathic treatment will also at least talk to a doctor or some expert in their problem. It's fine if you want to try homeopathic HCG for infertility, for instance--it won't hurt you. But it probably won't get you pregnant, either. There are a lot of natural things you can do to promote fertility--or weight loss, for instance--besides homeopathic pills.

Especially with those two, the choices aren't just homeopathy or drastic medical treatment. Lifestyle changes can be very helpful.

I don't understand how HCG can be a homeopathic remedy. I thought the idea with homeopathy was that you would take a tiny dose of something that caused the opposite of what you wanted. So if you were trying to get rid of a headache, you would take a tiny dose of something that caused your exact kind of headache. It's called the law of similars.

So by that logic, a homeopathic remedy for weight loss would be a tiny dose of, I don't know, lard (kidding). Can someone help me out here?
