What is Healing Touch for Animals?

Healing Touch for Animals is a modality of energy work meant to heal and balance animals. It was developed by Carol Komitor, and is often referred to as the Komitor Method as well. Healing Touch for Animals is a licensed form of energy work, and classes are offered only through approved instructors and workshops.

Healing Touch for Animals grew out of the Healing Touch modality, which was established in 1991 by Komitor. After years of working as a veterinary technician, Komitor combined her earlier modality, meant for humans, with an understanding of animal physiology and functioning, to create Healing Touch for Animals.

The mentality behind Healing Touch for Animals is described as “heart-centered care”, meaning the patient and healer are seen as equals participating in a loving form of mutual healing. Healing Touch for Animals relies, as the name implies, on a light touch, which is designed to be non-invasive. The idea is that this touch helps restore a balance to the energetic functioning of the animal.

Healing Touch for Animals is designed to relieve and aid in healing a wide range of symptoms and problems in animals. These include actual wounds, behavioral problems, internal injury, pervasive sickness, and general stress. Healing Touch for Animals is considered an alternative modality, and there are many within the mainstream veterinary world who consider it largely ineffective. At the same time, it has a strong following, and many devotees who provide numerous anecdotes of its efficacy.

Healing Touch for Animals is designed to work with any sort of animal. Animals treated with Healing Touch for Animals cover a range that includes tiny mice, iguanas, horses, elephants, parrots, and even fish. The ideas are meant to be universal enough to apply to all sizes, families, and temperament of creature. This technique works by releasing endorphins in the creature being treated. This in turn helps release stress, which lets the animal’s body free up energy to healing and more efficient functioning. This functioning is most obvious on the physical level, but extends as well to the emotional and mental levels.

People wishing to become practitioners of Healing Touch for Animals can find a workshop near them. There are four distinct levels of Healing Touch for Animals certification. The Level 1 certification is a three day workshop with dogs and horses meant to give an overview of the process, and showing its basic application. Level 2 builds on the principles explored in the Level 1, but focuses on more specific techniques. Level 3 continues to explore the technique, and introduces the use of essential oils, as well as techniques such as distance healing. The final level addresses advanced techniques such as the use of sound and tuning forks in healing, and also lays the final groundwork for a student to attempt to become Healing Touch for Animals Certified, so that they can enter a private practice.

Workshops are offered throughout the world, and practitioners of Healing Touch for Animals can be found in many different countries. Rates differ fairly widely, depending on the practitioner and the size and difficulty of the animal in need of care. As an alternative healing modality, however, Healing Touch for Animals is surprisingly affordable.
