There are a variety of solutions on the market for combating hair loss. DHT shampoo is one such solution. It is a treatment that blocks the DHT, or dihydrotestosterone hormone, in order for hair to continue growing.

DHT shampoo works by blocking the DHT hormone's movement in the body. This prevents it from altering the growth of hair follicles, allowing them to grow normally. Many different kinds of DHT shampoos are available for different hair loss needs. Generally, DHT shampoo relies on botanical extracts to block the hormone.

In addition to anti-DHT agents, many DHT shampoos contain ingredients similar to other shampoos. Zinc may be found in most anti-DHT products as it can help block DHT as well. Sage, thyme, fenugreek, and other herbs may be included as ingredients to both aid in the repression of DHT, as well as to increase the products' consumer appeal through scent and texture.

Safe and effective DHT shampoo is intended for daily use. Most are intended to be used on their own and require no additional shampoos. DHT shampoo generally can be used in conjunction with other hair care products per the purchaser's preferences. Each product's label can be read to discern its proper use.

Also an enzyme byproduct, DHT causes hair follicles to shrink by restricting the blood flow to the scalp. Nutrients and vitamins that typically make hair healthy are then cut off from the follicles, slowing or stopping hair from growing. This results in hair loss and, in some cases, complete baldness. Lack of nutrition to hair follicles can also result in graying hair.

Androgenic alopecia, or hair loss, affects both males and females. Also known as male pattern baldness, it is the cause of most people's hair loss. The condition results from the production of the DHT hormone. DHT is found in the hair follicles, prostate gland, adrenal glands, and testes.

Women tend to experience hair loss differently than men. Most men will lose their hair in a certain location. Women typically lose hair from the entire scalp at once, causing an appearance of thinning hair rather than bald spots. Women do not experience baldness as a result from DHT as often as men.

Other causes of hair loss unrelated to the DHT hormone may require an alternative regimen to this hair loss treatment. These causes can include stress, immune system deficiencies, trauma, and vitamin deficiencies. Remedies for these causes will vary depending on the cause, and should be discussed with a health care professional.

I've noticed that some anti-DHT shampoos contain anti-fungal medication in them. What's the benefit of these shampoos?

@alisha-- Yea it works but don't expect any miracles.

I've been using a DHT inhibitor shampoo for a little over a month and have noticed several new strands of hair. So it is working but it's not going to get anyone a full head of hair overnight.

It might work better as a preventative measure but I can't say anything about that because I had already experienced hair loss when I started on this shampoo. Regardless, I still think it's worth a try.

It is a bit costly though, which can make it difficult for some people to use it for the long term. I personally have not experienced any side effects, except for new hair growth of course.

I'm interested in DHT blocker shampoo and would love to hear from anyone who has tried it. Does it work? Does it have side effects? How long does it take to see results?

I work with body builders who often do testosterone supplementation for muscle building. One side effect of this is hair loss and body builders are always on the lookout for ways to prevent it. If DHT shampoo works, I would also like to try it and recommend it to my clients.
