Some options for spicing the cranberry jus while it is cooking are bay leaves, ginger and garlic, or cloves. Wine or rum can be added to the pan as it reduces for a more complex taste. Other additions include zest from limes, orange juice in addition to pan drippings, or diced onions.
Even though I'm not a big fan of cranberries, I do enjoy eating them during Thanksgiving, and Christmas, especially on my turkey and stuffing. My favorite brand of cranberry sauce would have to be the kind that still has cranberries inside the gel. It's a nice touch, even for someone like me who's not very big on the fruit.
@Euroxati - I would like to add that while I do agree that cranberries aren't all that popular when eaten raw, I think this is for a good reason, which is that they're very sour. If you reread the fourth paragraph, notice how it's mentioned that fresh cranberries have a very tart taste to them.
Going off of this, I
think this is one reason why I don't like any form of cranberry juice, unless it's completely diluted. The taste is just too strong for me.
On a final note though, even for those who don't like cranberries, I think one reason why cranberry sauce is so popular is because like the fourth paragraph mentions, canned fruit contains sugar and other kinds of ingredients. Because of this, it can be considered "diluted", and not the real thing. It's all about personal preference.
When I first saw the title of this article, I had assumed that it was an abbreviation for cranberry juice, but I was wrong. It's amazing how much cranberries have changed over the years, and even more so, that there are certain kinds of cranberry products that aren't necessarily exclusive to America.
In other words, whether it's in a drink, or just something that people use during Thanksgiving, cranberries are one of the most versatile fruits. Even though it might not be eaten by the handful like blueberries, or immensely popular like blueberries, it's found a way to adapt to society, in the form of other products per se.
For example, rarely are they ever eaten whole and raw. Instead, cranberries have become very popular through the use of cranberry capsules (supplements), liquids (cranberry juice), and garnishes (cranberry sauce). Come to think of it, I don't think I've even seen whole cranberries at the supermarket.
