Chia oil is derived from the seeds of the Salvia hispanica plant, also called the Chia plant. This flowering herb is native to Central America and is prized for the seeds that contain large amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds and sprouts are used in Central America as a nutritional supplement; the chia seeds are also used in the popular Chia Pet pottery planters. Used as an essential oil and a nutritional plant extract, the omega-3 fatty acids in chia oil offer numerous physical benefits.
Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for a wide array of health issues; one of the most important and well-known benefit is improved cardiovascular health. Scientists have determined that unsaturated fatty acids can lower cholesterol and prevent high blood pressure. Research shows that this supplement also aids in boosting immune system functions, helps prevent cancer and diabetes, relieves depression and joint stiffness, and improves memory.
The essential oil pressed from chia seeds contains important nutrients, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. It provides both calcium and the chemical boron, which helps the body absorb calcium. Composed of unsaturated fat, it also helps the body to absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K. People who have trouble with wheat and gluten products might appreciate the fact that chia oil is a gluten-free supplement.
Fish oil and flax seed oil are other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids, but chia oil has several advantages. It contains the same omega-3 fatty acids in greater quantities, and is cheaper than flax seed or fish oil. Since the oil is derived from a plant source, it is a more attractive supplement than fish oil for vegetarians and people who prefer plant extracts. The oil also has little taste, in contrast to the strong taste of some fish oil supplements. Lastly, it is free of the mercury found in fish and fish oil supplements.
As an herbal remedy, chia oil can be taken in several ways. It can be purchased as a bottle of liquid and taken three times a day, one tablespoon at each dose. Capsules are more concentrated, containing 500 to 1,000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids per capsule; a common dosage is 2,000 mg per day. The oil supplement can also be obtained by eating whole seeds or by cooking with the seeds, which offers an additional health benefit of high-quality dietary fiber. Dosage may be a matter of personal preference, but each method will provide the nutritional benefits of chia oil.

@babylove - I have heard that about Chia seeds being useful at reducing joint pain and inflammation. My mother has terrible painful arthritis and I would love for her to try this product, but I don't know where to buy Chia seeds.
If anyone knows of a supplier in the Mid-Atlantic Region or an online merchant would you please let me know. Thank you in advance. |

@wizup - That's a good question but there are so many chia seed health benefits that it may be easier to explain how they can't benefit you.
But I will indulge a little with some of the most beneficial reasons you should include chia seeds, especially organic chia seeds, in your daily diet without repeating those benefits that were already mentioned in the article.
Chia seeds help reduce blood pressure, improve the reproductive system, reduce arthritis pain and inflammation, they're useful in weight loss and have been known to increase brain power. Athletes take them to improve their performance for longer periods of time. |

I've been hearing a lot about this product lately and I was wondering what are some of the other chia seed benefits besides omega-3 and protein enhancers?

A friend of mine works at a health store in Los Angeles that just recently started selling chia seeds. I had initially stopped in for my regular energy booster when he suggested I buy the chia seeds.
I've been taking them regularly for about two weeks now and I have to admit these things are amazing. My energy level has increased and I don't have the food cravings throughout the day like I did before.
I don't know what's in them but they've been like a magic bullet for me. |
