The dish may be accompanied with Asian condiments such as additional soy sauce or red chili sauce.
I make a really quick and simple version of beef chow mein in my own kitchen. It is nothing fancy and it is not even particularly Chinese but it's quick and my kids love it.
What I do is cook up some ground beef with broccoli, carrots and onions. I mix in a little soy sauce. Then I cook up a couple of packets of oriental flavor ramen and use one seasoning packet on the whole batch of noodles. The beef goes over the noodles and voila, a Chinese feast.
Beef chow mein is probably my favorite thing to order when I go out for Chinese food. I know that it is not very authentic and the whole "chow mein" style of cooking is mostly a Western phenomenon, but I still love it.
