Aquaculture has become a very large industry, and rightfully so, since the need for fish is on a constant rise. Actually as much as half of the fish eaten is farmed fish.
An interesting fact about salmon is that the orange color of the farmed salmon comes from the pigment added to the food. It is mostly synthetic pigment, and it is believed has less health benefits. Without the pigment the flesh of the salmon would be more gray than orange.
Wild salmon also gets the color from the food, but the food is caught and eaten in the wild, which as we know about wild salmon has great health benefits.
