A TV splitter amplifier is an electronic device that allows a single input television signal to be split to several outputs, boosting them in the process. This type of device is important in many situations, since a standard splitter may provide insufficient signal quality for a high number of devices. The fact that it is a splitter means that one input cable can be connected to it, and then multiple output cables can be ran from it to numerous display devices. A TV splitter amplifier also boosts the signal for each of these devices, ensuring excellent picture and sound quality on each one.

The basic idea behind a TV splitter amplifier is for a single device to allow a viewer to send a signal to multiple displays without losing signal quality. Simpler splitter devices often have one input connection, to which a source cable is connected for the incoming signal from a media player or television service provider. Two output connections can then be used to allow two different display devices to connect to the same source and receive signals from it. A simple splitter with more than two outputs, however, can result in a deterioration of the signal sent through it, as the original signal is split between the two outputs.

Use of a TV splitter amplifier, however, alleviates this problem and easily allows a signal to be split between many more sources. These are fairly simple devices that typically have one input in much the same way as a more basic splitter. Additional output connections, however, are usually provided with this type of TV splitter amplifier to allow for more than two output devices. It is not uncommon for this type of splitter to accommodate eight or more output connections, which can be convenient for large houses or for conferences and other public demonstrations with multiple displays.

Since using it tends to boost the signal sent through it, a TV splitter amplifier typically requires a power source. This usually takes the form of a power cable that can be plugged into a wall outlet in a home or business. The power is necessary, since a TV splitter amplifier can often more than double the strength of the original signal it receives. This ensures that as each split signal is sent to the various output devices connected to it, the audio and video quality received and displayed by each one is the best possible. Some of these splitters also have shielding to protect the connections from noise and interference from nearby electrical wires or devices.
