@Pippinwhite -- When I had guinea pigs, I always used the pellet bedding, although I started out using aspen bedding. My piggies wanted to eat that though, so I started using the recycled kind.
It seemed to control the odor pretty well, although if you stay ahead of cage cleaning, guinea pigs usually don't smell much, if at all. It was also easy to see the wet spots, so those could be scooped out a couple of times a day.
The piggies always seemed to be happy with the recycled substrate and it also served well as garden mulch, with the piggy poop pellets making excellent fertilizer.
