The third option is desktop replacement actually combines the other two options. Out goes the older desktop unit that is now obsolete. In its place is a new laptop computer with all the latest in operating systems, audio and video features, and with a huge hard drive to store all your files. Along with the laptop, you choose to invest in a docking station. The docking station is simply a connection device that allows you to easily connect the laptop to a full sized monitor, keyboard and mouse. USB connections for Internet access and printing devices are also included along the rear of the station, as well as a power cord.

When you want to use the computer at your workstation, you simply slide the unit into the docking station until you hear a click, then press the “on” key on the docking station. Many docking stations are equipped with a level or a release button, so you can detach the laptop from the station with ease. With this solution you have the convenience of a full sized desktop solution, but also have the mobility offered by a laptop.
