@ocelot60- This is a good point, and I'm surprised it's not addressed in this article. Though no one with a stiff neck and headache should panic, awareness of the symptoms of meningitis is important.

Though a stiff neck and headache are usually nothing serious, there is a major illness that should be ruled out in cases when someone is in a lot of pain which is accompanied by fever, nausea, and vomiting. Though rare, these symptoms sometimes indicate meningitis. Because this disease can be life-threatening, anyone who is suspicious of symptoms of stiff neck and headache should seek medical attention promptly.
