Wrought iron pot racks can be both a decorative and a functional addition to a kitchen. They are either suspended from the ceiling or attached to a wall. Pot racks can be used, when kitchen storage space is limited, to provide a place to keep pots and pans, but they are also useful for keeping pots and pans easily accessible as well as adding a decorative element to the kitchen.

With many different shapes and styles to choose from, wrought iron pot racks can be found that either match or complement just about any kitchen decor. Since wrought iron is a black metal, pot racks made from wrought iron are predominately black, though there are styles that combine other metals or wood with the wrought iron. Styles range from simple rectangular racks to domed racks with decorative scroll work and details.

The location of the pot rack needs special consideration. When the pot rack is hung from the ceiling or attached to the wall, it needs to be able to bear the load of the pots and pans that will hang from it. Mounting the pot rack properly will ensure that it doesn't fall down once the pots are added to it. Most pot racks come with the necessary mounting and hanging hardware, but it is up to the homeowner to choose a location that can adequately support a fully loaded pot rack.

Pot racks are normally hung in the main area of a kitchen in order to keep pots and pans within easy reach. As a result, they can sometimes block out lighting, especially when hung over a kitchen island. If loss of lighting is a concern, choose a wrought iron pot rack in a style that has built-in lighting fixtures. Some wrought iron pot racks have attached lighting fixtures that match the style of the pot rack and provide lighting where it is needed. Pot racks with attached lighting, however, need to be connected to a source of electricity, which may require installation by a licensed electrician.

Wrought iron pot racks are available in a wide range of prices, which vary, depending on the size and style of the pot rack, the number of pots it can hold, and how much decorative iron detail work it has. Lighted pot racks generally cost more than racks without lighting. They can be purchased in home improvement stores, kitchen design centers, and kitchen supply stores.
