The growing popularity of copper for use in outdoor decorating themes has raised questions about the pros and cons of a copper fire pit, as well as how practical they are in different settings. As with any other type of exterior unit, some negative aspects of using a copper pit can be expected from varying weather conditions, as well as from constant use. These pits are also very expensive when compared to other types of fire pits, but their unique designs cannot be matched by any other types. Copper fire pits also provide a substantial amount of dependable service, and they are designed to be movable and very easy to clean.

The cons of a copper fire pit starts with the initial expense. Since they are made of copper, the price that they sell for is much higher than pits made from other materials. Copper is also not known to retain its shiny, unmarred appearance, so after use the finish will develop a patina. Various weather conditions can also affect the outward appearance of copper pits, so in areas were bad weather is prominent they will soon fade and develop an old-style look. Constant cleaning with a good quality copper cleaner and polisher in order to maintain the shine and style is the final downfall of owning a copper fire pit, because without constant maintenance they will lose their appeal in a short period of time. Other than the large initial investment, most of the negative aspects can be attributed to the look and design of the pits, especially if they are not carefully maintained.

The pros that are associated with owning a copper fire pit begin with the unique, individual style and design that they offer as an exterior decoration. These pits are also usable for the purpose that they were intended, so they fill the need for two different aspects of outdoor uses. Copper has a long usable life, and is resistant to corrosion, whether it is constantly used or not. There will never be any chance for the pit to have holes burned through it, and even if they are dropped or kicked around they will not sustain as much damage as other materials will. Many people will choose copper simply because of its unique beauty and for the very same reason that may be considered a negative — the way it ages and patinas differently from most other metals.
