The advances that have been made in fire protection and fire prevention in recent history have saved a lot of lives. Being a sports fan, I have taken a particular interest in how flame resistant materials are used in motor sports.
Accidents are to be expected in car racing. Cars flip over, crash into walls and other cars, and engines and glass lines explode. There is always some risk that a fire will break out. There is no way to take away all the risk involved in the sport, and that's okay because the risk is part of the appeal.
Still, even though fans like a certain amount of risk, I don't think there is anyone who is not in favor of the use of flame resistant suits for drivers and pit crew members as a way to make motor sports less dangerous.
