What are the Different Types of Display Cases? |
||||||||
Many collectors prefer to keep their collections in display cases, which allow collectibles to be viewed without exposing them to dust, sunlight, or other damaging factors. Display cases of all sizes are usually made of wood, metal, or plastic, with glass or Plexiglas panels that allow the collectibles to be viewed. Many display cases now feature glass or Plexiglas with a UV resistant coating, which protects collectibles from fading with exposure to sunlight. Many display cases are made to hold a large number of collectibles. These display cases, which may also be called display cabinets, come in many different sizes and shapes. Some large display cases are solid and feature interior lights, such as the display cases you see in antique and jewelry stores. Sometimes display cabinets themselves can be antiques, such as china cabinets, curio cabinets, and bookcases. There are also many custom display cases available for large collections, such as cabinets for model cars, in which the shelves are all set at specific heights in order to accommodate smaller objects. Display cases also come in smaller sizes, so that a collector can display one or two choice collectibles. Hobby stores usually sell display cases sized for model cars, trucks, airplanes, or ships. Hobby stores also often sell dome-shaped display cases for dolls, figurines, or flower displays. These display cases generally have wooden or plastic bases, with a dome-shaped or rectangular cover made out of glass or Plexiglas. Some shops will also make custom display cases according to their customers' orders. Depending on the store, custom display cases can be made for one specific collectible, usually a large collectible; custom display cases can also be made with shelves to display a few choice collectibles. When measuring for custom display cases, be sure to include in your measurements sufficient room to surround the collectibles. If you are a serious collector, display cases will be an important investment for your collection. Collectibles left in open air can become coated with a thick crust of dust over time, as well as being left vulnerable to sunlight and other damaging factors. Display cases ensure that your collection will be there for you to enjoy in the years to come.
