An aluminum conveyor is a device used to transport materials or items from one location to another within a set space. The main material used to create the components of the aluminum conveyor is usually extruded aluminum, which is essentially aluminum that has been forced into elongated shapes using special machinery. Various types of conveyors made from aluminum exist, and each type is designed for a specific application. Aluminum belt conveyors, for example, are designed to be lightweight for portability and ease of setup while moving objects or materials.
Conveyors that use aluminum rollers and no belt are designed specifically for larger or bulkier items. Such an aluminum conveyor may feature an aluminum frame as well as aluminum rollers that are mounted in succession within that frame to create a rolling surface for large objects. The frame is usually adjustable so the system can be set up to utilize gravity as the main propelling force. Again, the advantages of aluminum include light weight and strength, as well as lower cost when compared to steel components. Some of these roller conveyors are even retractable, which means the aluminum conveyor frame can essentially accordion into itself for ease of storage or transport.
Skate conveyors feature a series of small skate wheels placed in a specific pattern on axles that run between the two sides of the aluminum conveyor frame. This allows for even more portability during storage or travel, though the conveyor will feature more moving parts that can break down. The advantage to such a system is the ease of repair: single skate wheels can be easily replaced without having to take apart major sections of the conveyor, and since the parts are fairly small, the replacement cost is generally lower.
Sometimes the aluminum conveyor will feature an aluminum frame but not aluminum conveyor belts or other movement systems. The frame can be extruded into a specific shape that will accept a plastic belt, for example, essentially creating a track in which the ends of the belt can run smoothly. This type of system will keep the belt on track at all times and will provide an easy and useful propulsion system. Steel rollers, bearings, or wheels may be used in conjunction with an aluminum frame and other aluminum components as well to combine the strength and durability of steel with the lower cost and light weight of aluminum.
