Some of the best tips for fair and glowing skin are to take excellent care of it by cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing regularly. Applying sunscreen on a regular basis will help to protect skin from sun damage keep it its natural shade. Maintaining a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water, while avoiding refined carbohydrates and sugars can also help to create a dewy complexion. Choosing makeup items with subtle highlighting properties can also help to perk up dull or tired skin.

Fair and glowing skin begins by taking care of the skin itself. Using a gentle cleanser in the morning and before bed removes impurities in the skin, leading to a clearer complexion. Following with a moisturizer that includes vitamin C, retinoids, or alpha-hydroxy acid can help to increase cell turnover and slough off dead skin cells, revealing younger fair and glowing skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week can help to remove even more dead skin cells, and smooth out the facial area, allowing more of the ingredients in face serums and moisturizers to penetrate.

Sunscreen is one of the most important aspects of achieving and maintaining fair and glowing skin. Even a slight tan indicates that skin has been damaged by the sun, leading to future discoloration and potential premature aging. A sunscreen of at least SPF 15 should be used every morning, even if there are no plans to head outdoors. When spending large amounts of time in the sun, a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 or 45 should be applied every few hours to keep the skin protected.

Because people with fair skin tend to burn easily, it's important to look for a foundation or BB cream that contains suncreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF).

The appearance of fair and glowing skin is a direct result of one’s overall health. Eating foods rich in nutrients and lean protein helps to provide skin with what it needs to repair cells from damage due to exterior toxins and free radicals. Drinking plenty of water flushes out existing toxins and provides the skin with moisture, keeping it healthy and dewy. Foods such as potatoes, white rice, and refined pasta should be avoided, as they often cause an inflammatory reaction in the skin, which can result in discoloration, redness, or an overall dull complexion.

Once the skin is well taken care of and provided with all of the nutrients that it needs, make-up can be used to achieve fair and glowing skin. Foundations or tinted moisturizers with light reflecting properties can help to make the skin glow. Mineral powders, whether in foundation, blush, or bronzer, help to highlight the skin, often without looking overly glittery. To really make fair and glowing skin stand out, cream or powder highlighters can be used on the top of the cheekbones, on the inside corners of the eyes, underneath the eyebrows, and down the bridge of the nose to bring life to the skin.

@clintflint - It depends on the kind of makeup you're talking about. I don't use foundation or anything like that, but if I really want to get glowing skin I'll put a bit of shimmer powder on and that tends to do the trick. It's just ground up mica and it washes straight off, so I don't think it really does anything to upset my skin the way that other products might.

@Iluviaporos - I never really look like I've got glowing skin unless I work at it carefully with makeup. I quite like using makeup as a fun thing to do, but I'm not sure most people realize how much work goes into making people with flawless complexions look that way. When I use makeup I have to be careful to thoroughly cleanse and moisturize my skin before and afterwards or it breaks out. When I don't wear makeup for a while it's like my skin balances itself and I don't have to do as much.

But a lot of women have to wear makeup all the time for their jobs. Or they just like doing it. You can't really get away with not using products to care for your skin if you are going to wear it.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different skin care products, in order to see what works best for you. I've found that my skin looks best when I use as few products as possible. I only ever use moisturizer if it looks a bit dry (which doesn't happen often) and I just wash it with ordinary soap in the mornings.

I have fair and sensitive skin that tends to break out if I change my routine at all, so I'm careful not to, but it did take me a while to realize what works best.
