define

Teetotalers and designated drivers who like to enjoy a night out at a party or nightclub without alcohol might be interested in learning about some tasty non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Of course, there's always soda or juice, but why have a special night only to drink the same old thing?

Non-alcoholic mixed drinks are also the perfect solution for office parties, where the hosts want to serve something special to their workers but don’t want to have to deal with some of the silliness and irresponsibility that can come with an open bar.

Here are some great recipes for non-alcoholic mixed drinks.

Fruit Juice Coolers

Fruit juice coolers are delicious and refreshing non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Though they require several ingredients, they’re simple to make:

  • 12 ounces water – regular or sparkling
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 12 ounces peach nectar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup grapefruit juice

Pour all ingredients into a large pitcher and mix well. Pour in tall glasses over ice, and top with a maraschino cherry.

Shirley Temple

Named after the famous child actress, the Shirley Temple is probably the most famous of the non-alcoholic mixed drinks.

Pour all ingredients into a tall glass filled with ice and top with a maraschino cherry.

Cowboy Punch

Cowboy Punch is a great idea if you’re looking for non-alcoholic mixed drinks to serve at a party or other festive event. This is another simple recipe which many say tastes like champagne.

  • 1 gallon grape juice
  • 1 liter club soda
  • 2 liters 7-Up or ginger ale

Pour all ingredients into a punch bowl and add ice. Best served very cold.

Safe Sex on the Beach

The virgin counterpart to the popular Sex on the Beach cocktails, these non-alcoholic mixed drinks are sweet, delicious and allow drinkers to feel as if they’re having something a bit more special than soda or bottled water.

  • 3 ounces cranberry juice
  • 3 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 2 ounces peach nectar

Pour ingredients into a cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Non-alcoholic mixed drinks don’t have to be bland or boring, and one doesn’t have to have alcohol to have a good time. There are plenty of options available for designated drivers or those who don’t wish to imbibe. If none of the above suggestions appeal to you, ask your bartender to recommend some non-alcoholic mixed drinks. He or she is sure to have several appealing suggestions.
