What are Some Different Ways to Decorate Easter Eggs?

Are you looking for some new ideas when it comes to Easter? Children love to decorate Easter eggs and there are some exciting options besides simply dipping boiled eggs into cups of food coloring. Easter egg decorating kits are available in many different styles and provide everything needed to make cool, colorful eggs. Some kits for Easter eggs include stickers or wraps that encircle the entire egg. These include pictures but eggs can also be dipped into color first for even more fun.

You and your kids can also decorate Easter eggs with your own stickers. Be sure to pick up plenty of them. Small stickers work best and you can create a pattern all over some Easter eggs while placing some randomly on other ones. On the other hand, you may want to give each child stickers in a certain theme for his or her Easter eggs.

You can also use stencils to decorate your Easter eggs. You can even create your own stencil designs by drawing on eggs with wax or crayons before dipping them in color. The stenciled area will stay white while the rest of the egg absorbs color, creating fun designs. Try this option if you want to make personalized Easter eggs, and then help each child write his or her name on some eggs before dipping them into the egg dye.

Another option is sponge painting Easter eggs with craft paint or food coloring. Use all one color and leave some white showing or blend several colors together and create a cool textured look. You can cover the entire egg or simply paint images or designs onto eggs. Your kids can mix and match the different colors or they may want to paint all their Easter eggs in their favorite colors and leave other colors for their siblings. It looks great when you fill a colored basket with eggs the same color.

For any of these ideas or even if you’re dipping Easter eggs the traditional way, it is important to protect surfaces before you begin. Also, if you try these options and you’re worried that kids won’t find their own personalized or favorite color eggs, it’s OK, because after all the Easter eggs are found they can trade. With these fun ideas the Easter Bunny is sure to be impressed. Your kids will think you’re pretty cool too!

Another really fun way to decorate Easter eggs is to do paint "marbling" - mix paints in a solvent that they don't actually mix in, if that makes sense: like oil paints in water, so that the color is basically floating around the liquid, and dip the eggs in and out - this creates a really beautiful marbled effect.

Another fun idea is to use a white crayon or stick of white wax, and then dye the egg. Wherever the white crayon was used, the color will not take, so it makes it possible to draw any design you want. Colored crayons can also be used, although the color might blend in with the color on the Easter eggs.
