What are Some Basic Strategies for Winning at Craps?

define

Strategies for winning at craps are as varied as the bets that can be placed on the table. Cmay not be for the faint of heart. The payoffs can be big, but the risks can also be big. Some craps bets give the house one of the highest edges of any casino table game. Winning at craps normally does not depend on high bet strategies, but safer bets that give the house an edge of approximately 1.5 percent.

While there are many bets to choose from, there are a number of things to keep in mind. While some gamblers believe the best strategy for winning at craps is to hedge their bets by placing different bets on high risk/high reward options, this often means the gambler loses their money at least twice as fast. By far, the best strategy for winning at craps is the pass/don’t pass and come/don't come strategies.

The first roll of the dice after a win or loss is called a roll out. Before the roll out, bettors have a chance to place bets on the “Pass” or “Don’t Pass” line, along with a number of other options. If a player bets on the pass line, he or she is betting the player will roll a seven or 11 on the first roll. If the dice reveal either of these numbers, players who bet on the pass line win. If the dice reveal 2, 3 or 12 on the first roll, players betting on the pass line lose. If any other number is rolled, the players on the pass line win if that number is rolled again, before a 7 is rolled.

The opposite is true if a player bets on the “Don’t Pass” line. However, there is one notable exception. If a 12 is rolled on the roll out, it is a push bet, which means the player gets his or her original bet back. Again, the pass and don't pass bets have nearly the same odds and should be part of any better's strategy for winning at craps.

The “Come” or “Don’t Come” line is very similar, but this bet is made after the roll out, once the roller’s number has been established. The player wins on a come line if the next roll is a 7 or 11 and loses on a 2, 3, or 12. Any other number becomes the winning number of the better. If that number is rolled again before the roller loses, the better on the come line wins. The don’t come line has the same rules as the don’t pass line, only it is made after the roll out.

These bets are the only ones most people should consider if they are truly intent on winning at craps. While some may be the craps table for the excitement, others are there to have a real shot at winning. For those in this second category, winning at craps consistently requires bets on the pass/don't pass lines and come/don't come lines.
