The article is correct: no, no and *heck* no! Contacts are absolutely contraindicated when one has pink eye.
I have a co-worker who got a touch of pink eye and wore her contacts anyway, even though it hurt to do so. A few hours later, she was nearly unable to see out of one eye and her parents took her to her opthamologist, who came in on a Sunday to see her. He was so disturbed by the examination, he immediately sent her to the Eye Foundation Hospital at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, some 80 miles away.
She had an extremely aggressive infection that could have completely destroyed her eye, left for another couple of hours. She spent the night there, with nurses putting drops in her eye every 30 minutes around the clock, and when the doctor thought her eye would be saved, sent her home with instructions to continue the eye drops every 30 minutes, around the clock, then every hour around the clock. She was out of work for over a week, and when she came back, had a patch on her eye.
Sure it's not common, but all this from wearing contacts with a case of pink eye. She has vision in that eye, but it's not as good, and it will never be the same. Don't give in to vanity. Wear your glasses.
