Is Composer John Williams a Big Fan of the "Star Wars" Films?

It may be hard to believe, but the legendary John Williams, who is famous for composing the scores for the Star Wars movies, says that he has never seen any of the films in full. In a 2016 interview with The Mirror, he explains that after spending months writing, revising, dubbing, and recording the music, when he is finally finished with a score, he avoids going to the cinema to hear it again. Williams also acknowledges that although his Star Wars music is probably what he is best known for, he does not find it particularly memorable. He compares his work to having children, saying that no matter how good a father you are, you always notice things you would have done differently. Others would argue that Williams has proven himself many times over, winning numerous Oscars for his work, not only for Star Wars, but also for Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Schindler's List.

Keeping score:

  • John Williams has earned more Academy Award nominations than any other living person, with 51 nominations as of 2018.

  • George Lucas was certain that Star Wars would flop in 1977 and went on vacation rather than attend the premiere.

  • The Star Wars score tops the American Film Institute's list of best movie scores.
