Is a Home in Mexico More Likely to Have a Television or Refrigerator?

Homes in Mexico are more likely to have a television than a refrigerator. More than 90 percent of households in Mexico report having a TV, but only a little more than 80 percent report having a refrigerator. To put that in perspective, more than 25 percent of homes in the United States have at least two refrigerators.

More about Mexico:

  • There were huge changes in the quality of living in Mexican homes from 1990 to 2010. In 1990, about 20 percent of the houses in Mexico had a bare-earth floor, and one-third lacked sewage access. In 2010, only about 6 percent of homes have bare earth floors and only one in 10 have no sewage access.

  • Only about 65 percent of homes in Mexico have a shower.
  • More Mexican households have a mobile phone than have a land line.
