Hypnosis for motivation is considered very effective. Many hypnotherapists believe that hypnosis is ideal for helping to spark personal motivation of all types, whether it be to lose weight, quit smoking, work harder, or improve interpersonal relationships. Hypnosis for motivation is generally performed in the same way as other types of hypnosis, and is said to work by making changes to the subconscious mind. These changes are believed to help bring about voluntary and automatic behavioral and thought changes in the subject.

A hypnotherapist typically uses a hypnotic induction to put a subject into the relaxed, but alert and aware, trance state known as hypnosis. Once the subject has entered the hypnotic state, visualization and affirmation techniques can be used to enhance motivation. Many people struggle with issues of motivation, generally when they want to change personal behaviors or habits.

It can be hard to summon the motivation to make positive life changes, even when those changes are clearly necessary. Summoning motivation is often considered one of the hardest challenges people face when they begin to change long-standing habits and behaviors. Often, old habits continue to influence thoughts and behaviors, even when the desire to change is strong.

Many hypnotherapists, and other psychological experts, believe that changing old patterns of thought and behavior is difficult because these patterns have become ingrained in the subconscious mind. These experts believe that people often tend to act, think and feel according to the beliefs and patterns ingrained in the subconscious. Many habitual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors occur automatically, without conscious thought, because they originate from patterns formed in the subconscious.

Hypnotherapy allows hypnotherapists to access the subconscious mind in order to influence change in the patterns and beliefs of the subconscious. Once these patterns and beliefs have been changed, behavior often changes accordingly. People who have undergone hypnosis for motivation may find that it is much easier to make real changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors after one or more sessions of hypnosis.

The effectiveness of hypnosis for motivation often depends on the subject. It isn't usually very easy to hypnotize a person to do something he doesn't want to do. The more willing the subject is to make changes in his thoughts, feelings and behavior, the more quickly and effectively hypnosis can work for him. Many subjects find a significant improvement in motivation levels after just one session of hypnosis. Additional sessions of hypnosis for motivation may be necessary for subjects who have a more deeply seated resistance to implementing change.
