As men age, they often experience a decline in facial hair. While this may seem like a good thing for some, others may be very affected by decreased amounts of facial hair. Some of the most common ways to increase facial hair growth include supplementation with vitamins and minerals, increased amounts of exercise, and massage. In the most severe cases, or those in which patients do not experience results, a prescription medication that can stimulate hair growth may be prescribed.

One of the best ways to stimulate facial hair growth involves supplementation with various vitamins and minerals. Studies have shown that the use of magnesium, zinc, copper, and the B vitamins may be especially helpful. These vitamins and minerals work due to their ability to increase oxygenation in the body, which increases hair follicle growth. For best results, the minerals should be taken only in accordance with a medical professional's approval. In some cases, these supplements may interfere with other medications that are currently being taken by a patient.

Another common method for increasing hair growth involves exercise. While supplementing one's diet with vitamins and minerals is one great way to increase oxygenation, exercise has proven to be just as effective. For best results, aerobic exercise, such as walking, jogging, and biking should be performed. Participating in this type of exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times per week has been shown to be highly successful at promoting facial hair growth.

Massaging and moisturizing the facial hair follicles may be another effective way to increasing hair growth. Research has found that rubbing moisturizer or massage oil on the face before bedtime can help stimulate the follicles. For best results, look for a moisturizer or massage oil that is in its most natural state. Products that contain high amounts of dyes or perfumes may actually be detrimental.

Some medications may prove effective at increasing hair growth. While a number of over-the-counter medications for stimulating facial hair exist, those that are prescribed by a medical professional are typically most effective. A healthcare professional will typically recommend prescription medications only as a last resort for those who have not experienced improvements with the other methods.

Some young teenage boys are overly eager to start growing beards and can cause themselves to grow a lot of facial hair, leaving them with regret later on in life. These boys can tend to become men who need to shave multiple times a day to keep from getting a shadow.

Some people are genetically predisposed to have very little facial hair growth. While they may see this as a curse, those of us with too much facial hair who have to shave multiple times a day to keep away a shadow, will tend to see it as a blessing. It is nice to be able to grow a beard every now and then, but the costs tend to outweigh the benefits.
