Applying fake scars to your face or body can liven up a costume or role-playing situation. There are many materials that you can use to make gruesome or lifelike scars, including eyeliner, foundation, fake blood, fishing wire or and flour. When you're just getting started, you might decide to create scars out of a flour-and-water paste or by drawing them on with eyeliner and mascara. Foundation or powder can help make fake scars look more realistic. Creating fake scars using these materials can take some practice, but you eventually might be able to create wounds that are convincing enough to fool people at a costume party or spooky event.

To create a raised, stitched scar, you usually will need to make some fake skin. To do this, you can mix several spoonfuls of flour with a few spoonfuls of warm water until you can make a dough. Then, you can shape the dough into a scar and attach it to your skin. It should stick to your skin if you press it down around the edges. To blend it well, you can cover the scar with a foundation color that matches your skin tone.

Next, cover the scar once more with a slightly darker shade of foundation, and then pat or brush on a bit of loose powder. After this step is complete, you can create a cut down the middle of your fake skin with a dull knife, being careful not to press down too hard and ruin your new scar or cut your skin. An uneven, messy cut often looks realistic.

To put the finishing touches on fake scars, you can create fake blood and apply fake stitches to the cuts you made. You can make fake blood by mixing a bit of corn syrup, red and blue food coloring, corn starch and cocoa powder. When you are happy with the color of this mixture, brush the blood into the cut that you made. You can then follow up by pushing the sharp ends of staples into the fake skin, creating the appearance of stitches.

Another method that can be used to create convincing fake scars involves the use of eyeliner. With an eyeliner pencil, you can create stitches on the desired area by drawing repeating lines followed by a long, horizontal line through the small lines to complete the look of stitches. To make the wound look more realistic, it helps to pat baby powder on the eyeliner and then put a bit of mascara on each part of the fake stitches before adding powder once again. By repeating these steps, you can create a texturized scar. Finally, trace each previously drawn stitch with liquid eyeliner, and let your handiwork dry.
