Silicone soap molds are a popular choice among soap makers because soap doesn’t stick to the molds, making it easier to remove. An added benefit of this method is that silicone does not leave behind lines or marks that other molds may cause in the finished product. There are numerous different types, shapes, and sizes of molds soap makers can choose from. Choosing the best silicone soap molds depends on what type of soap you plan to make and how much you are willing to spend.

Before starting your search for silicone soap molds, consider the type of soap you plan to make. Making soap from scratch involves measuring and mixing all the ingredients — including the lye, oils, and fragrances — by hand. While this process takes longer than melting a block of premade glycerin soap and pouring it into molds, it results in higher quality and more professional-looking soap. Both processes can use the same silicone soap molds, but if you are going to be making soap from scratch, you may want to start out with a just a few molds until you know how long it is going to take, and how many molds you will actually use.

When purchasing silicone soap molds, keep in mind that you will need to use them exclusively for soap making. Do not use the same mold for cooking, even if you thoroughly cleanse it. While you can purchase molds designed for cooking and use them to make soap, it may be easier to find exactly what you are looking for if you purchase molds designed specifically for soap making.

If you are planning to make traditional bar soap, you will need to purchase silicone liners rather than silicone soap molds. Although silicone has many benefits, its flexibility becomes an issue when you are making a large batch of soap in one mold. The sides will bulge out, creating uneven soap. Using a wooden mold lined with silicone makes your soap look more even while also allowing you to easily remove it from the mold. For the best results, purchase a liner specifically designed for the dimensions of your mold.

Silicone soap molds designed for fancier soaps come in almost limitless shapes and designs; it can be a little overwhelming to decide what type to purchase. Consider the purpose of your soap while choosing the best silicone soap molds. If you are planning to sell them professionally, research your options and choose a mold that reflects your target buyer’s interests. For example, if you are planning to sell to a seaside inn, soaps made to resemble seashells may be a good choice. If you are just planning to make soap for personal use, choose any molds that appeal to you.
